State-Of-the-Art IT infrastructure in Place
-
Eng Kong’s IT runs on the latest and advanced servers and storage system
-
Ensures high availability, robustness and scalability
-
Backbone for Eng Kong’s container management system, financial system and other mission critical systems
-
Its centralised web-based Container Management System provides an effective tool for front-line depot operations to update and track container movements
-
The back-end standard report systems provide accurate and timely information for daily operations and management reporting
-
Eng Kong also provides seamless data updates via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Application Programming Interface (API) directly into its customers’ systems, enabling customers to view real-time data via their own platforms.
-
Eng Kong’s Mission Critical Systems are running in a virtualized environment with high availability and redundancy features that provide 24x7 readiness to support the Groups’ business operations and mission critical systems in case of a disaster strike that may affect any of its site
Container Management System (CMS)
-
Depot Operations - Container Tracking (Gate In/Out, Repair & Etc.), Repair Estimates Processing, DHC Collection, etc.
-
Revenue Collections - Storage, Handling, Repair, Others
-
Operating Costs - Labour, Material, Sub-Contractors, etc
-
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) with Customers - CEDEX, CODECO, WESTIM, COPARN, etc
-
Application Programming Interface (API) for real-time update of container’s movements, estimates and other related activities.
-
Customers/Operation Reporting System
Damage Container Survey via Mobile Applications
-
Implementation of Surveyor Application and deployment of portable devices to enhance data capturing, minimise paper usage, counter processing time and backend data entry
Automatic Seal Dispenser System
-
With the implementation of the Automatic Seal Dispenser, Prime Mover drivers after picking up the empty container will not have to go through the process of parking their vehicle and go to the gate house to collect the seal.
-
Drivers now can receive their correct seal from the automated dispenser machine immediately upon the exit gate thus reducing valuable time to leave Eng Kong depot and continue their journey.
Stacker/ForkLift Automation via Vehicular Mounted Terminal
-
Implementation of Stacker Driver Application and deployment of Vehicular Mount Terminal (VMT) to allow drivers to capture and update container positions as a result of the movement.
Depot Appointment System (DAS)
-
Allow Depot to set available timeslots to ensure depot is in operational state
-
Broadcast message to the haulage community about depot operating status
-
Hauliers/transporters reserve time slot to pickup/return containers for a designated depot
GIRO and Electronic Wallet Payment Systems
-
Fast, efficient and secure in making payment
-
Reduce collection errors and easy payment administration
-
GIRO and quick cash turnaround electronic payment system.
Moving to Mega Depot
Gate Automation System
Using License Plate Recognition System and Depot Appointment System. When prime movers arrived into Eng Kong Mega Depot, the system will pick-up the license plate, validate against the appointment date/time and other prescribed documentation. If the conditions are matched, ie. correct licence plate number, date/time and other necessary documents are ready in the system, it will connect to the CMS and Payment System to perform relevant gate activities automatically. Thus, minimizing data entry, streamline processes at counter, improve productivity and reduce turnaround time for each prime mover’s container pickup/return activity.
Damage Container Survey Automation System
The system uses different technologies to automate exterior container survey. Example such as using OCR to recognise container numbers, and utilising AI and Machine Learning to identify damages on the container itself. This allows external surveys to be completed automatically, while human intervention is only required for container internal and undercarriage survey or containers marked as severely damage.
This will cut down on time and manpower required to conduct the surveys. With further development, it is possible to fully automate container survey in the future.
Yard Management, Planning and Optimisation System
This is the ‘Brain’ of the system. It communicates with the Container Management System (CMS) to receive instructions and generate job orders to send to the Equipment Control System for a given task. In general, it has access to the Yard Plan data, Yard Inventory, Pooled Resources, Business/Stacking Rules and make decision to assign yard resources to fulfil a requirement. Due to the importance of this function, a control room will be setup for monitoring and to perform human intervention when exception arise.
The Equipment Control System receives job orders from the yard management, planning and optimization system and to provide guidance to both manual and automated machinery (Cranes, Stackers and ForkLifters). Its primary function is to direct the nearest machinery to pick an appropriate container and load to the selected prime mover or offload a container from the selected prime mover to an appropriate location.
Traffic Control and Management System
This system manages traffic flow within the Mega Depot. It controls the traffic situation of the depot, like traffic light control, resolve traffic situation and direct traffic to prevent accident, congestion and etc.
Logic and rules input from Operation Management and applied into the knowledge base will be used to find the optimal solution to realise efficiency and intelligence for managing traffic situation in the yard to reduce the probability of deadlock and to shorten the traveling path, hence to improving route/production efficiency and reduce unnecessary consumption.
Each prime mover will be given an app to be installed into their mobile phone. This apps will act as a ‘Navigational GPS’ the moment the prime mover is operating in the depot. It directs and dispatch the respective prime movers to the correct location upon arrival into the depot for pickup and return of containers.
